Telecommunication Sector is Still Prospective, Mitratel (MTEL) Expand 5G Services
This 5G network is believed to accelerate digital transformation and the growth of Indonesia’s digital sector.
IDXChannel – Currently the use of 5G technology in Indonesia is predicted to be more attractive, referring to GSM Association (GSMA) research entitled The Mobile Economy Asia Pacific 2022.
This research states that the business consolidation of telecommunications operator companies will accelerate the adoption of 5G. Telecommunication tower is one of the main elements of the 5G ecosystem that can spur the adoption of 5G technology in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, according to Kearney’s study, 5G penetration in 2025 is projected to reach 27.2 percent, or higher when compared to the 5G penetration potential in 2024 of 13.4 percent. Indonesia is entering a new round of information technology because 5G cellular networks have started operating commercially throughout Indonesia since May 24, 2021.
This 5G network is believed to accelerate digital transformation and the growth of Indonesia’s digital sector. The implementation of 5G will encourage the increase in smart cell needs.
Then, the profit of telecommunication operator companies using 5G has an impact on revenue growth.
Research Analyst of PT BRI Danareksa Sekuritas, Niko Margaronis said PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk, (Mitratel) prepares digital infrastructure to make it easier for telecommunication operators to expand 5G services.
Mitratel transformed into a digital infrastructure company (Digital InfraCo) and the largest telecommunications tower (tower) in Southeast Asia because the number of towers in the first quarter of 23 was 36,439 units.
“In addition to the tower outside Java Island, the massive availability and distribution of Mitratel towers on Java Island is a competitive advantage that attracts telecommunication operators to rent towers with a collocation partnership scheme that benefits telecommunication operator companies for 5G network expansion, especially in big cities,” said Niko to the media, written Monday (6/19/2023).
In the first quarter of/2023 Mitratel controlled a market share of 45 percent in the national tower industry. Niko said the expansion of telecommunications operator companies will drive revenue growth, net profit and Mitratel EBITDA above 10 percent by 2023.
“The potential for revenue growth is supported by tower rental demand from Indosat operator Ooredoo Hutchison, XL Axiata and Smartfren in the second quarter to fourth quarter of this year. Financial growth will be a positive catalyst for the targeted stock price,” explained Niko.
In addition, Mitratel took the initiative to provide the latest business segment, namely fiberization and power to the tower services that provide the management of electrical energy sources to towers connected to the PLN electricity network (on grid).
Mitratel also has another business portfolio related to the tower which recorded revenue worth Rp128 billion as of March 2023. This portfolio provides telecommunication infrastructure management services, non-telecommunication, and project solutions.
Mitratel’s business growth is also driven by the expansion of fiber portfolios, including fiber optic acquisitions. The digital infrastructure ecosystem in Mitratel’s portfolio supports the business expansion of customers, namely MNO companies. Mitratel expanded its portfolio in the fiber optic sector by building 8,876 km organically in January-March this year.
Robertus Hardy, Senior Research Analyst of PT Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia said, this year’s economic condition is believed to still be a positive catalyst for the telecommunications sector compared to other sectors.
For the telecommunications sector, he continued, communication and public data spending will grow this year, especially with the addition of 5G service demands in big cities.
Robertus observed Mitratel as a leader in his sector because it has the most towers in Southeast Asia. “Therefore, Mitratel has the potential to spend capital expenditure (capex) to increase the tower,” said Robertus.
This is believed to have an impact on MTEL’s financial growth in 2023. Mitratel’s income this year, continued Robert, is estimated to be worth Rp8,59 trillion, net profit of Rp2,08 trillion and EBITDA of Rp6,82 trillion and dividend yield is pegged to 2.3 percent.
