IDXChannel – Encouraged by BUMN, PT Telkom Indonesia is transforming with a digital business focus. This aligns with the mission set by BUMN Minister Erick Thohir, who aims for Telkom to become the foremost digital telecommunications company in Southeast Asia. PT Telkom Indonesia implemented this vision by shifting its business model, focusing on digital world operations. One notable implementation of this shift is evident in Telkom’s subsidiary, PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk. (Mitratel), which continues to establish operator towers to enhance 5G networks throughout Indonesia. Erick Thohir highlighted Telkom’s significant strategic initiative through Mitratel, which is targeting the construction of 6,000 communication network operator towers in the next 3 years. This initiative is exceptionally crucial as this aligns with the government’s transformative vision to equalize digital access throughout the archipelago. “PT Telkom’s initiatives through Mitratel exemplify a significant undertaking because it will enhance the accessibility of communication for communities in all regions, fostering digital networks and realizing Digital Indonesia. This initiative will have a substantial impact on economic growth, public services, and potentially influence MSMEs as well as human resource development,” said Erick in his written statement, Friday (2/11/2022). Erick also appreciated Telkom’s swift response to the challenges he presented when he first became minister. Erick mentioned how Telkom, with its massive infrastructure, still relies on the old business model. In fact, digital changes at the same time have disintegrated the analog telecommunications business. Now, Telkom’s transformation towards a digital-centric business model has made remarkable development. “Telkom’s transformation towards a digital-centric business model has been very visible in the last three years. I am optimistic, with the strategic planning and execution of this communication tower infrastructure construction, Telkom will become the largest digital telco company in Southeast Asia in the next three years,” said Erick. However, he underlined that Telkom’s transformation towards a digital-centric business model must strive to enhance its quality at the implementation level, not merely creating a new value (new value creation). “Telkom’s current focus lies in discovering new value through Mitratel’s digital telecommunications tower business to capture new revenue streams that increase the company’s income. Furthermore, it is crucial to determine how this digital infrastructure can offer an appealing new value proposition for the company. This marks an impactful shift in the company’s business model,” added Erick. Erick emphasized that Mitratel’s development aligns with shareholder agendas in fostering a strong 5G ecosystem, signified by the ongoing 5G Mining collaboration project between PT Freeport Indonesia and Telkom. Apart from that, the Ministry of BUMN has initiated various programs to support digitalization, including in the financial sector (using artificial intelligence), health (via telemedicine), logistics (integrated logistics system), and transportation (ecosystem for autonomous vehicles). On a separate occasion, Telkom’s President Director, Ririek Adriansyah said, “Telkom is committed to accelerating its transformation and optimizing portfolio structuring for optimal value creation for TelkomGroup, stakeholders, and the nation.” Ririek emphasized that Telkom’s focus on enhancing the tower infrastructure, data center, infrastructure management service, cloud computing, big data, and retail services business will strengthen its position as a pivotal partner providing digital connectivity, digital platforms, and digital services to both domestic and regional businesses. “Investors’ growing interest in Telkom shares could be one of the parameters of the effectiveness of the ongoing initiatives. We remain confident that this transformation will yield even more positive outcomes in the future,” said Ririek.
