Jakarta, October 16, 2019 – PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (Telkom) is strengthening its tower supply business through its subsidiary, PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi (Mitratel), by acquiring 2,100 telecommunications towers from Indosat Ooredoo. The signing of the agreement shifting tower ownership to TelkomGroup took place at Indosat Head Office in Jakarta (10/14). This agreement comes into force by the time both parties fulfill all their specified obligations as agreed. Among the attendees were Telkom President Director Ririek Adriansyah, Telkom Strategic Portfolio Director, Achmad Sugiarto, and Telkom Wholesale & International Service Director Edwin Aristiawan. Edwin Aristiawan, Director of Wholesale & International Service Telkom, conveyed that this corporate initiative carried out by TelkomGroup is a business strategy to enhance telecommunications infrastructure capabilities considering the potential of Indosat Ooredoo’s telecommunications towers. “These telecommunications towers have a tenancy ratio above the industry average with a solid structure and nationwide coverage throughout Indonesia. These towers offer promising potential for TelkomGroup’s tower business in the future. We could leverage the tenancy ratio to a higher level through the synergy between TelkomGroup and Telkomsel,” remarked Edwin. In addition, Edwin further added that the telecommunications tower business is still promising, considering the ongoing efforts by telecommunications operators to enhance network quality and expand their services coverage. He expressed his confidence that the telecommunications tower business will continue to thrive. “The telecommunications tower industry is predicted to make headway in welcoming the advent of 5G technology in Indonesia. The presence of 5G technology in Indonesia is anticipated to leverage market demand for tower providers, as occurred in developed countries where 5G technology has developed. Apart from that, this acquisition is deemed more effective and efficient in providing added value for the company compared to establishing a new telecommunications tower,” Edwin explained. Mitratel, a subsidiary of Telkom which operates within telecommunications infrastructure provision, currently has managed more than 13,700 telecommunications towers across numerous regions, serving all mobile operators in Indonesia. The ownership takeover of the Indosat Ooredoo telecommunications tower is a strategic move by TelkomGroup, executed through Mitratel, to secure its position as the dominant player in Indonesia’s tower industry.
