JAKARTA – Focused and consistent on being the largest digital infrastructure company in Indonesia, PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk. (MTEL) informed that it had acquired 803 towers owned by PT Gametraco Tunggal worth IDR 1.75 trillion. With this acquisition, the number of MTEL tenants increased by 1,327 tenants.
Of the 803 acquired towers, 562 towers or 70% are outside Java Island. Meanwhile, the remaining 30% or 241 towers are located on Java Island. This additional asset composition confirms MTEL’s commitment to becoming a strategic partner for the telecommunications operator industry in expanding throughout the country.
“Expanding market share outside Java has become a strategic agenda for a number of telecommunications operator companies. This expansion is in line with the increasing need for the internet in various regions along with even distribution of economic growth. As the major player in this business and part of a BUMN, we definitely have to be at the forefront in helping their expansion,” said Mitratel President Director Theodorus Ardi Hartoko.
Henceforth, Theodorus Ardi Hartoko continued, the company will continue to add assets, both in towers and fiber optics. Including acquiring divested assets from telecommunications operators. Previously, at the end of September 2023, MTEL had also completed the purchase of towers, the majority were located on Sumatra Island.
“We believe that the future business landscape of the telecommunications industry will be marked by the divestment of towers and fiber optics owned by the MNO industry. They do this because they want to focus more on product innovation that provides added value and fulfills consumer needs. This change is certainly an opportunity for Mitratel to become a strategic partner and grow with them,” said Teddy, Theodorus’ nickname.
In the Q3-2023 performance report, MTEL recorded proprietorship of 37,091 towers, an increase of 5.8% compared to the same period last year of 35,051 towers. Meanwhile the number of collocations jumped 21% to 18,613 from the previous 15,339 collocations (yoy). Mitratel also succeeded in extending fiber optics from only 5,872 Km to 29,042 Km.
Teddy explained that the purchase of 803 towers had strategic value not only because the majority of them were located outside Java. Most importantly, there are an additional 1,372 new tenants who become part of the tower. “Apart from strengthening Mitratel as a tower provider that covers all regions of Indonesia, this acquisition also increases the tenancy ratio,” said Teddy.
