This 5G network is believed to accelerate digital transformation and the growth of Indonesia's digital sector.
IDXChannel – Currently the use of 5G technology in Indonesia is predicted to be more attractive, referring to GSM Association (GSMA) research entitled The Mobile Economy Asia Pacific 2022.
This research states that the business consolidation of telecommunications operator companies will accelerate the adoption of 5G. Telecommunication tower is one of the main elements of the 5G ecosystem that can spur the adoption of 5G technology in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, according to Kearney’s study, 5G penetration in 2025 is projected to reach 27.2 percent, or higher when compared to the 5G penetration potential in 2024 of 13.4 percent. Indonesia is entering a new round of information technology because 5G cellular networks have started operating commercially throughout Indonesia since May 24, 2021.
This 5G network is believed to accelerate digital transformation and the growth of Indonesia’s digital sector. The implementation of 5G will encourage the increase in smart cell needs.
Then, the profit of telecommunication operator companies using 5G has an impact on revenue growth.
Research Analyst of PT BRI Danareksa Sekuritas, Niko Margaronis said PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk, (Mitratel) prepares digital infrastructure to make it easier for telecommunication operators to expand 5G services.
Mitratel transformed into a digital infrastructure company (Digital InfraCo) and the largest telecommunications tower (tower) in Southeast Asia because the number of towers in the first quarter of 23 was 36,439 units.
“In addition to the tower outside Java Island, the massive availability and distribution of Mitratel towers on Java Island is a competitive advantage that attracts telecommunication operators to rent towers with a collocation partnership scheme that benefits telecommunication operator companies for 5G network expansion, especially in big cities,” said Niko to the media, written Monday (6/19/2023).
In the first quarter of/2023 Mitratel controlled a market share of 45 percent in the national tower industry. Niko said the expansion of telecommunications operator companies will drive revenue growth, net profit and Mitratel EBITDA above 10 percent by 2023.
“The potential for revenue growth is supported by tower rental demand from Indosat operator Ooredoo Hutchison, XL Axiata and Smartfren in the second quarter to fourth quarter of this year. Financial growth will be a positive catalyst for the targeted stock price,” explained Niko.
In addition, Mitratel took the initiative to provide the latest business segment, namely fiberization and power to the tower services that provide the management of electrical energy sources to towers connected to the PLN electricity network (on grid).
Mitratel also has another business portfolio related to the tower which recorded revenue worth Rp128 billion as of March 2023. This portfolio provides telecommunication infrastructure management services, non-telecommunication, and project solutions.
Mitratel’s business growth is also driven by the expansion of fiber portfolios, including fiber optic acquisitions. The digital infrastructure ecosystem in Mitratel’s portfolio supports the business expansion of customers, namely MNO companies. Mitratel expanded its portfolio in the fiber optic sector by building 8,876 km organically in January-March this year.
Robertus Hardy, Senior Research Analyst of PT Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia said, this year’s economic condition is believed to still be a positive catalyst for the telecommunications sector compared to other sectors.
For the telecommunications sector, he continued, communication and public data spending will grow this year, especially with the addition of 5G service demands in big cities.
Robertus observed Mitratel as a leader in his sector because it has the most towers in Southeast Asia. “Therefore, Mitratel has the potential to spend capital expenditure (capex) to increase the tower,” said Robertus.
This is believed to have an impact on MTEL’s financial growth in 2023. Mitratel’s income this year, continued Robert, is estimated to be worth Rp8,59 trillion, net profit of Rp2,08 trillion and EBITDA of Rp6,82 trillion and dividend yield is pegged to 2.3 percent.

Research Analyst PT BRI Danareksa Sekuritas, Niko Margaronis mengatakan PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk, (Mitratel) menyiapkan infrastruktur digital untuk memudahkan operator telekomunikasi memperluas layanan 5G.

Mitratel AGMS Decides on 99% Dividend and Share Buyback Option
Jakarta, Friday (4/14/2023) – PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (MTEL), also known as “Mitratel”, has approved the distribution of dividends, consists of cash dividend equivalent to 70% of net profit, totaling IDR 1,249,547,501,295 or IDR 15.1178 per share and special dividend of 29% of net profit or IDR 517,669,679,108 or IDR 6.2631 per share. This was determined by Mitratel Management at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS) at the Four Seasons Hotel, Jakarta on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Cash dividends and special dividends will be paid all at once, no later than May 17, 2023, to all shareholders registered on the Mitratel shareholder list as of May 4 2023. Dividend payments will be made considering tax provisions, the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) and others applicable capital market provisions.
Mitratel’s President Director, Theodorus Ardi Hartoko, who is familiarly called Teddy, said that dividend distribution is Mitratel’s commitment to providing the best value to shareholders.
“Mitratel has set a total dividend payout ratio of 99% considering Mitratel’s optimal capital structure and liquidity to continue organic and inorganic business growth in the coming period. “In 2023, Mitratel will continue to expand its market and strengthen Mitratel’s market share in telecommunications tower industry,” added Teddy in Jakarta to journalists, Friday (14/4/2023).
Mitratel’s business plan emphasizes Mitratel as an independent telecommunications infrastructure company that is growing rapidly become the largest tower ownership in Southeast Asia which is equipped with supporting services in tower ecosystem, such as Tower Fiberization, Power-as-a-service, and infrastructure-as-a-service to support enhancement of services from mobile operators. Mitratel has allocated capital expenditure (capex) worth IDR 7 trillion to support organic and inorganic development this year.
Apart from distributing dividends, Mitratel also obtained approval for the repurchase of company shares (buyback) that have been issued and registered in IDX, IDR 1,500,000,000,000 excluding Stock Exchange Member commission fees and other expenses, that will not exceed 7.88% of the total issued and paid-up capital in the Company. This buyback will be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations.
“Some of the reasons why Mitratel decided to buy back shares were to evaluate the flexibility enabling Mitratel to have a mechanism to maintain the stability of Mitratel’s share price, to promote share price that reflect the company’s true value or performance, and efforts to optimize the company’s excess cash to increase returns to company shareholders,” said Teddy.
This share buyback initiative is to anticipate no adverse material impacts on the company’s business activities because this initiative takes into consideration the company’s business operations, financial health, working capital requirements, and sufficient funding sources to carry out the corporate action.
The share buyback is expected to boost the investors’ confidence in the shares value according to the company’s fundamentals. Additionally, buying back company shares also offers the company flexibility in managing long-term capital, where treasury shares–resulting from the buyback–can be sold in the future at an optimal value if the company needs additional capital.

Mitratel Achieves Double-Digit CAGR Growth, Outpacing Industry Trends
JAKARTA – PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk. (MTEL) recorded a remarkable of Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR), achieving double-digit growth in the 2017-2022 period. This growth exceeds the CAGR of other telecommunication tower issuers. Analysts recommend investment in Mitratel shares due to its promising financial performance and the company’s plans to offer higher dividends at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS).
Theodorus Ardi Hartoko, the President Director of Mitratel, elaborated that this double-digit CAGR growth exemplifies Mitratel’s sustainable financial performance, providing a solid foundation to bolster the company’s business growth in the future.
“We make a commitment to emphasizing asset monetization to accelerate sustainable tower expansion across Indonesia through acquisitions. We are also innovating in developing the tower business ecosystem, including fiber optics which will create a sustainable business model in the digital era. “We are optimistic that future performance will be better,” said Theodorus Ardi Hartoko, familiarly known as Teddy, to journalists in Jakarta on Monday (10/4/2023)
Additionally, Mitratel also recorded an EBITDA CAGR of 27%. “This company’s achievement is recognized higher than the industry average EBITDA CAGR.” MItratel’s CAGR growth jumped double digits because the company succeeded in improving optimal financial performance,” said Teddy.
He again stated that Mitratel this year has launched a roadmap for organic and inorganic growth by capital expenditure (capex) around IDR 7 trillion to support digital transformation and develop the tower business ecosystem by increasing the number of telecommunications towers, fiber optics and other supporting infrastructure. which has the potential to increase the company’s revenue and net profit in the future.
Cheaper Valuation
On a different occasion, Robertus Hardy, Senior Research Analyst at PT Mirae Asset Sekuritas Indonesia, said that telecommunications infrastructure shares are prospective shares this year because we are approaching the general election period in 2024. This is projected to have an impact on a surge in data traffic.
In addition, the performance of telecommunications infrastructure issuers is supported by wider adoption of 5G technology, fixed broadband penetration, and competition for telecommunications service providers to improve the quality of their services. “Thus, we initiated this industry with an overweight rating with MTEL as the primary choice. Apart from the relatively healthier balance sheet with only 33.0% net gearing as of December 2022 compared to TOWR and TBIG which were 309.5% and 224.3% respectively,” said Robertus in his research.
Therefore, continued Robertus, MTEL not only could pay higher dividends, but also has the ability to spend more of capital expenditure to increase the number of tower assets, through build-to-suite or acquisitions.
MTEL’s assets have a cheap valuation, the enterprise value (EV) / tower ratio as of December 2022 is worth IDR 2 billion. “This is more than a 35% discount from TOWR and TBIG whose EV / tower is IDR 3.1 billion and IDR 3.3 billion respectively,” said Robertus.
Then, Mitratel does not have exposure to the risk of foreign currency fluctuations because all loans are denominated in rupiah. The company’s debt last year fell to IDR 15.29 trillion from IDR 18.07 trillion. The debt-to-equity ratio (DER) in 2022 will decrease to 0.45 times from the previous 0.54 times. Thus, Mitratel has quite room to expand because its DER is decreasing, and its equity last year rose by 0.5% or to IDR 33.80 trillion.
The company is optimistic that business prospects in 2023 will continue to record growth above the industry average, this is based on MItratel’s solid strategy and business model, supported by organic growth such as increasing collocation (tenancy ratio), and accompanied by organic and inorganic actions to trigger Mitratel to record growth in revenue and net time.
According to data, Mitratel’s revenue CAGR in 2017-22 jumped by IDR 14%. Then, Mitratel’s net profit CAGR jumped by 34% or exceeded the net profit CAGR of TOWR and TBIG in the 2017-2022 period, which were 10% and minus 6% respectively.
In the future, MTEL will continue to take several strategic steps. The company will focus on providing upstream to downstream solutions to customers such as fiber to the tower, power to the tower, and energy as a service. MTEL is believed to be aggressive in monetizing telecommunications tower assets, “We like Mitratel because of its position as a leader in the telecommunications tower sector with 25,418 tower ownership under management as of December 2022,” said Robertus.
As of December 2022 data, Indonesia has 127.8 cellular users per 100 residents. With a population of more than 275 million people as of September 2022, Indonesia is the fourth largest country in the world after India (1.42 billion), China (1.41 billion), and the US (333 million). Therefore, this huge market potential has succeeded in attracting several large telecommunications tower provider companies to invest to strengthen market share in this segment.
CAGR Mitratel Tumbuh Dua Digit, Melampaui Industri
Perusahaan akan fokus untuk memberikan solusi dari hulu ke hilir kepada pelanggan seperti layanan fiber to the tower, power to the tower, dan energy as a service.
Per data Desember 2022, Indonesia memiliki 127,8 pengguna seluler per 100 penduduk.
